My Dream

My Dream

Henry Nguyen

Since I have learned of the existence of space, I often took the time to look out of the window, and gaze at the magnificence of the stars. These stars have symbolized hope for me, and are just amazing to observe. On Earth, we have discovered many things not known before, and now we even have the technology to explore even past this, and into the outer reaches of space. I can try to study the universe, but without the job of an astronomer, I would never, really have the tools to learn anything. Throughout my life, I have learned that the sky is not the limit, but how far I am willing to travel is. This is the 21st century, and there are many openings, I can take.

There are many reasons for me to want to become an astronomer, and my intentions are clear. First of all, I just want to learn about what is out there. I have not been such an explorer now, but that is because there is nothing to learn on the ground we know. I believe that we must look further before any of us can discover new and amazing things. When I was young, I read any book about the universe that I could. All these things were fascinating, but none could really pierce my mind, and tell me what I wanted to learn. With the choice of becoming an astronomer, I could finally learn what I wished to know, and continue to learn throughout my life time.

Next, I know that humans are just curious, and want to explore. People from all over the world come to work, and discover what is to be found. This is something I want to be part of. When people are working together to learn, it is a time of peace, away from all the fighting and wars taking place on out planet. By trying to explore the universe, we, as humans can experience something great and have a purpose. I can try to be anything else, but nearly all things have no reason. I could become a doctor, but what is the purpose of that? Someone could make money and save lives, but even more people are lost in war. The only thing that I have seen, that could possibly lead to peace, is by working as one, all the countries exploring the universe. We had the great space race, between the U.S. and the Soviet Union, but that lead to nothing, but conflict. If we could issue peace to work on a large scale project, we could do that to give peace to the world. This is one thing, I consider great, not making money, but doing something with a purpose.

Lastly, it is just my dream. I have no other interests, as great as this one, and it is an amazing thing to do. I know that the astronomers before me enjoyed their work, and like me, they saw a purpose. Nothing else could give me such a chance, as being an astronomer. The world is a different place now, and I just want to be a part of something, that could help the people of this planet. The information I could learn, would be passed down, and the future of our race, can finally exit the fog. For millennia, our race has pursued worthless things, but by working as one, and showing what humans can really do, will help everyone.

So, in conclusion, I want to be an astronomer, for it gives me a chance. A chance to explore, a chance to restore peace, and have a purpose. For years, I have gazed at the stars, and if I can have the opportunity to become an astronomer, I will take it, to continue what I have always done. Exploring the world outside of our atmosphere, sounds appealing to me, and I would wish to learn what nature has created, away from our planet. This may only be a dream, but one that can be a reality.
